From London to Clarksons Farm Without a Car

From London there are two sensible routes without a car. One gets you every place from the show with a guide; the other gets you the shop and its queue for the price of the fares.

Route 1 — the train to a tour

  1. 1Take a direct train from London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh: 84–93 minutes, about 38 a day, advance fares from £14.
  2. 2Meet the mini coach outside the station at 14:00, or the local host at the start time on the listing.
  3. 3See all eight places on the mini coach, or four with the local host, and finish back at the station.
  4. 4Take a direct train back to Paddington.

Route 2 — on your own, by train and bus

  1. 1Take the train from Paddington to Oxford.
  2. 2Change for Charlbury: about 16 minutes, £8.20 off-peak single.
  3. 3Walk about ten minutes to the stop and take the X9 towards Chipping Norton, not the Witney bus.
  4. 4Get off at the farm shop stop, about 20 minutes and £2. Come back the same way.
Which one to chooseRoute 1 shows you all eight places from the show for £62 plus the train. Route 2 gets you the shop and its queue for the fares alone. Check the X9 times before you travel: buses are infrequent, and a missed connection can mean a wait of an hour or two.

Timing a Clarksons Farm Day Without a Car

Opening hours. Diddly Squat opens Tuesday to Sunday from 09:30 to 16:30 and is closed every Monday, so a Monday trip by bus finds it shut. The café serves food until 15:00 and the bar stays open until 16:30.

09:30the opening time to aim for on a weekday: Tuesday to Thursday mornings have the shortest queues.

Getting back. On very busy days the shop can close the queue a little before 16:30, so plan your bus back with time to spare rather than for the last minute. On a tour this is the operator's job: the mini coach is back at Moreton-in-Marsh at about 18:00.
